Joy of Festival – Ang Bao Distribution to Elderly
大年初六，六六大顺， 六六圆满。 新加坡西藏文化中心开开心心的完成了春年慈善活动。 吉祥如意！随喜！
A well-spent day! On 13 February, Tibetan Buddhist Centre together with 17 teams of volunteers went knocking on the doors of more than 100 elderly with one single purpose – 拜年!
It was a first for many of us. The Joy of Festival event is the first charity engagement event by Tibetan Buddhist Centre this year. We initially worked on a target of raising funds to benefit 114 socially isolated elderly seniors. But because of the public’s generosity, we exceeded our initial target just two weeks before the event. With the extra funds collected, we were able to serve another block of 55 elderly persons.
It was also a first for many of our volunteers, and along they brought with them their children and grandparents to help make the auspicious event a success. We are happy to receive feedback from volunteers that it was heartwarming to see their afternoon of volunteering bringing many smiles to the elderly living alone at Teck Ghee Estate. In the process of giving, our volunteers and sponsors have benefitted much too.
All in all, it was a joyous wrap up for this year’s Joy of Festival Ang Bao distribution event.
Our sincere gratitude to all sponsors , volunteers and Exco members who have made this possible. Please visit our Facebook page to view the day’s photos!
“Though sometimes people laugh when I say it, I myself always want more friends. I love smiles. Because of this I have the problem of knowing how to make more friends and how to get more smiles, in particular, genuine smiles. If these are the smiles we want, then we ourselves must create the reasons for them to appears.”
~ His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
